A day in Kuala Lumpur

After a 3 hour delay in Hong Kong  (very well tolerated)....
I Finally made it to Kuala Lumpur.
Fortunately has it that I was sitting next to Brian, a 45 year old businessman from Saint Louis, avid Cardinals fan, who has spent 5 years in KL. He was extremely  enthusiastic about the city and seemed to know every neighborhood and their specialty dishes.  He spent 4 hours drafting an overabundant list of must see/visit /eat/drink in both Kuala Lumpur and Penang

Which also meant I missed on the 4 hours I intended to sleep after that 17 hour flight/movie extravaganza from Dallas to Hong Kong.

And did I mention that in spite of being a Global entry /TSA PreCheck / Gold AAdvantage member arriving 2 hours before the scheduled departure, I missed my initial flight from Charlotte to Dallas?
Yeah.... it turns out good old American Airlines had 6 employees in total checking in passengers at one of its major hubs. On a Friday. Easter weekend....

Never schedule connecting flights too close to one another. Check where the particular plane is coming from.  And how often that particular flight is delayed or canceled.

On the other hand, I enjoyed some really nice views of Hong Kong.

I'll  never know what landing in one the region's busiest airports feels like. I had it all to myself, or almost, at 3:30 am.
No checked luggage. Uber ride into Bangsar and I was in bed by 5. Then you realize it's 5 pm back home and you must update friends and family. Oh look!  It's 7 am!

I tried to sleep until 9,  but I was only kidding myself. I booked a few reservations that you'll hear from in th next few days.

My hosts Lydi and Sam were nie enough to give me a ride to KL Sentral. From there I would catch the next HoHo. (Nickname for the Hop on,  Hop off bus)

Probably not as the best of its kind (buses run every 30 min,  speakers didn't work on 2 of the buses, English language only and yes on speakers since there's no individual headphone Jacks or choice of language for the tour)

Otherwise, a sensational tour.
First obervation. One of the cleanest cities I've been to. You bet it's busy, with constructions galore. .. yet, almost spotless.

Kuala Lumpur is full of life. Busy, yet green. It's a warm 95 degrees out but not humid. No offensive smell. Simply delightful aromas, especially  by the malls.

It's old, modern or even futuristic.

In all fairness, the Petronas Towers should get their own page.
So does the food.

The connector is said to provide great views ot the city... but is currently closed. Next time.

As for the food, I finally had a meal in Malaysia around 3 pm!
The Ship
Specialty. You guess it. Seafood.  And life at sea

The going away festivities

After spending almost 7 wonderful years in New England, growing as a person and as a professional, creating bonds that will last for a lifetime, I must say my coworkers and friends sent me off royally!

Celebrations lasted well over a month.

Thank you!
